Writing habits you’ll actually tick

Make it checkable. “Walk 20 minutes” can be ticked; “be healthier” can’t.

Make it small. The version you can do on a bad day is the one that builds a streak. Grow it later.

Tie it to something. “Stretch after brushing teeth” uses a routine you already have as the trigger.

Don’t break the chain twice. Missing one day is normal. The Total column shows the month honestly without making a single gap feel like failure.

How long until it sticks?

The popular “21 days” figure has no solid basis. In a 2009 study at University College London (Lally et al., European Journal of Social Psychology), the time for a new daily behaviour to become automatic ranged from 18 to 254 days, with a median of about 66. Simple habits settled faster than complex ones. That’s one reason a monthly sheet works well: print the next one and keep going.

Questions

How many habits should I track?

Start with three to six. The tracker holds up to 20 rows, but a short list you complete most days does more than a long one you abandon in week two.

Can AI suggest habits for my goal?

Yes. Type a goal like "sleep better" or "get ready for a 10K" into "Draft with AI" and it suggests 5–10 small, checkable daily habits. Edit or delete any of them before printing.

Is there an undated version?

Untick "Tie to a month" for a 1–31 grid without weekdays, so one print works for any month.

Should I choose Letter or A4?

Pick the paper that is actually in your printer. US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) is standard in the US, Canada and parts of Latin America; A4 (210 × 297 mm) is standard almost everywhere else. The PDF page is built at the exact size you choose, so print it at 100% or "Actual size" rather than "Fit to page".

Why is there a margin around the page?

Most home inkjet and laser printers cannot print right to the edge of the sheet; they leave roughly 3–6 mm unprinted. A margin of 10–13 mm keeps every line on the paper. Drop it to 6 mm if your printer supports borderless printing.
