Planning a day on paper

  1. Fixed things first. Put meetings, classes and appointments into the schedule column.
  2. Choose three. Write the three outcomes that matter most today, then give each a slot in the schedule.
  3. Everything else is a to-do. Small tasks go in the list and fill the gaps between blocks.
  4. Close the day. Tick what’s done and copy anything unfinished to tomorrow’s page.

Questions

What is on the daily planner page?

An hourly or half-hourly schedule on the left, then a top-three priorities box, a checkbox to-do list, optional gratitude and water trackers, and notes. Choose the hours your day actually runs, from 0 to 24.

Can I print a month of daily pages?

Yes. Set a first date and up to 31 pages; each page gets its own weekday and date. Untick "Print dates" for undated pages you can reuse.

Why only three priorities?

Because a to-do list tends to grow faster than a day. Naming the three things that would make today a success, before the list, makes it obvious what to do first when time runs short.

Should I choose Letter or A4?

Pick the paper that is actually in your printer. US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) is standard in the US, Canada and parts of Latin America; A4 (210 × 297 mm) is standard almost everywhere else. The PDF page is built at the exact size you choose, so print it at 100% or "Actual size" rather than "Fit to page".

Why is there a margin around the page?

Most home inkjet and laser printers cannot print right to the edge of the sheet; they leave roughly 3–6 mm unprinted. A margin of 10–13 mm keeps every line on the paper. Drop it to 6 mm if your printer supports borderless printing.

Can I print it for a binder or a smaller planner?

Choose A5 or Half Letter for a pocket or discbound planner, or print Letter/A4 and use your printer's "2 pages per sheet" option. Leave a margin of at least 15 mm if you will hole-punch the pages.
